My father, at least that I recall as a child, responded to his name with

" Yo! " . Of course, this could have been everyone in Brooklyn at the

time, but I think rather it was an army response to roll call.

Of course, you've all heard the one about the new recruit, eager to

impress his Jewish sergeant, who responded to his name with " Oy! " :-)
