Guest guest
Dear Group: Here's a story. I fractured and dislocated my right elbow Christmas Eve at my Mom's house. The perimedics had to be called as I could not get out of floor. My crutch didn't break away from my arm as I was in close quarters with my Mom having a lot of furniture. Her house does not accommodate my scooter so I have to use my crutches. I mastered her two steps into the Den but I think my toe or crutch stopped in the carpet. I just spent 6 days in the hospital. I have been in a lot of pain but I didn't have to have surgery. They fitted me with a right-arm brace which prevents me from lowering or straightening my arm. Since I'm righthanded I'm really struggling. I'm to see doctor in two weeks, I may have to wear this for three months. I hope not. The forearm crutches do have advantages and I've used them for six years. The draw back is what happened to me or you can dislocate your shoulder. I probably will resort to the old standard type when healed, I don't know. I just use them for getting into the car, and short distances and standing. Do you CMTers as advanced as me use a walker or what? I'm really down. Guest guest
Elena - Thank you for your kind words. I had saved both of your messages. I have the brace off during day and only have to wear it at night and if I'm out for the next 4 wks. I'm to try to stretch it out on my own. Glad to hear your arm got okay in three months. It's like if I forget about my arm and go through my normal routine that I'll some how stretch it out without thinking, if you know what I mean. Did that happen to you or was it a gradual thing? I can't get the fork up to my mouth yet (good for dieting, ha!) or hold the phone to my ear...it's just the little things like putting on eye makeup, etc. I feel like every day it's stretched out a fraction more. Thanks for writing to my post. DB -- >From: WHACKOMOM@... > >Donna- I am the one who had the exact injury you had! It took several months >almost 3 I think before my arm straightened out- I never regained my grip- so >my handwriting is pretty difficult to decipher.
