A new study shows that several of the most popular over-the-counter herbs may

impair fertility. Researchers assessed the effect of St. 's wort,

palmetto, echinacea purpura and ginkgo biloba on sperm DNA and fertilization.

They found that high doses of echinacea, ginkgo and St. 's wort have an

adverse effect on reproductive cells. St. 's wort, in particular, both

impaired the ability of the sperm to penetrate the egg and resulted in genetic

mutations in the sperm. Conducted at Loma Univ. School of Medicine, the

study is published in the most recent issue of Fertility and Sterility. " The

growing popularity of these herbal products means we must examine all their

possible side effects, " said Alan H. DeChemey, editor of Fertility and

Sterility.

HOLY FRIJOLES ANDREW!!!!! What a chilling bit of news to those who are still

in the reproductive mode!!

I'm glad I've progressed to the " HOORAY, HOORAY FREE AT LAST " era of my life

with no more worries in that field.

I've got my hands full keeping up with Mr. Biggles..................

, Jeanne, and Group,

Like you, Jeanne, I'm glad I no longer have to worry about reproductive

issues! , you are outdoing yourself in the war against

non-traditional medicines. Should we re-name you the Ralph Nader of

herbal supplements?! I have many friends who are either trying to get

pregnant or are pregnant ( I work with a young group), and they don't

even take aspirin, let alone anything else. I often say I'm glad I had

my kids back in the dark ages when practically nothing was suspect, and

despite my ignorance, they were and are fine - not even any rls, at least

not yet!
