Guest guest
sounds like you might be a good candidate for carpal tunnel surgery..........I had all of that and now that I had surgery in both hands.........I am just like new. Re: hand problems I have pain, tingling, numbness and all kinds of stuff in my hands. I find running hot water over them helps, also wearing isotoner gloves, and moving them often such as squeezing a rubber ball or silly putty, and playing the piano. I haven't written for a while but I read the messages every day. Hello to all the new folks. Joan
Guest guest
I am very interested in this subject. I have never had really strong hands and they are now getting worse. I am 64 years old. I cannot open jars and often drop an object I have in my hand. I would like to see some medical research which might direct us as to how best to keep the muscle strength we have. I firmly believe that over exercise is harmful - at least based on my experience -- but would like to know more. Virginia
Guest guest
, I believe the secret is to rest often..... I find that if I use the keyboard to long my fingers, hand, or lower arm start to ache. But I'm starting to learn when to take my breaks to allow my fingers or hand not to overtire... I know I need to keep them active so that they don't atrophy or deform, I also know from experience with MY CMT that overdoing it can cause you to loose it also. My new OT told me that this practice is harmful to my hands and that I need to stop doing it. My hands did feel better after I squeezed the putty but were felt very tiered after stretching the putty. I did stop the exercise and am now I just stretching my hand and fingers out. I have noticed no difference in my hands other than they continuously worsen and are very painful. My OT therapist said to exercise my fingers as if I was playing the piano and that working on the computer was fine but to take lots of breaks and stretch out. Let us continue talking about this subject. We can put our suggestions together and maybe may come up with some solutions. H >>
