Guest guest
Neurontin (Gabapentin) is classed as an anticonvulsant, and does not seem to have a lot of bad side effects. Connie
Guest guest
I don' remember my post about Neurontin making the list last week. Heck, I can't remember much these days. Maybe I can blame it on the Klonipin. I tried Neurontin one day last week. Took one at 6 p.m. and legs started shaking about 8. Took another one. Legs started dancing right here at the computer. I really got panicky worrying about what I would do when I went to bed. At 11 I went to bed and legs were still dancing. Then my arms started, hands and what seemed like my ears had RLS. I felt I was going crazy. I took a Tylenol/codeine and it put me to sleep. When the alarm went off at 5 a.m. and I was lying there trying to wake up, my legs started at it again. That is the first time I have ever had RLS in the a.m. I guess there was still some of the Neurontin in my system. I had a drug hangover for about three hours. It made me want to cry and when someone told me some bad news at school, I started crying. I probably wouldn't have otherwise. Neurontin is definitely NOT for me. I guess this could be called augmentation in a BIG way. It was far worse than when I tried the Sinemet, which settled my legs at night but gave me the wiggles in my legs and arms during the day, too. I called the neuro the next day and his nurse told me, of all things, that he couldn't do anything else for me anymore. He just washed his hands of me. Welcome to the world of RLS. He said there was a new neuro coming to town who knew more about RLS. So I asked what I was to do in the meantime? She said, just stay on your Mirapex until you can see the new doctor. Well, I went back to him because the Mirapex is not working anymore. Oh, the things we go through with this thing called RLS. My heart goes out to all of you who have this terrible affliction. Guest guest
lindy b - just shows us once again how different we all are since neurontin is 'supposed' to be the most benign of all the major rls drugs with the least side effects. maybe your primary physician can put you on something else (requip/permax??) until the new neurologist comes to town - anyway i do hope you get relief soon!!!!!! Guest guest
Thanks, Jack, for the kind words. Have been thinking of going back to my primary doc for the RLS anyway. He was the one who gave me my first prescription for Valium back in 1980 when I told him my legs wouldn't stay still at night and kept me awake. Of course, he didn't know what it was, but helped me anyway. Then we went our separate ways due to HMO's etc. I was able to get back with him when he moved to a large Houston based clinic. By now I was getting RLS treatment from my OB/GYN who also has RLS. He was my hero. He actually understood what I was going through. His mother also had RLS until her recent death and I was the one to tell him about Maripex--for his mom. Before Maripex, we both went over the meds in Sleep Thief and decided what was best for me. I left the book with him for a while and when he returned it he was quite grateful. Since then he felt I should see a neuro because the RLS was getting worse. Now that the neuro has washed his hands of me, I am seriously thinking of educating my primary doc. He not only is our family doc, but our neighbor and friend. I don't like to discuss medical stuff when we are meeting socially, but my husband and I helped him get his computer on line and I think it is time I got back with him on the RLS--after almost 20 years--gives him the addresses of the the web sites and get him signed on to " The List. " BTW. I'm glad you are still a happy camper after all these hours of marriage!
