Guest guest
Hi Terry, , a, I never had a tendon transfer but understand they are temporary, lasting only as long as the transferred tendon keeps its strength. I’ve had CMT since age 3, I’m now 61. By age 5 my feet were so crooked the Dr. said I’d be in a wheelchair by age 6. However, my parents (bless them both) thought otherwise. My father made aluminum splints, padded with dense foam which my mother bound to my feet EVERY night for years. My feet slowly straightened and now they are still straight without high arches. It was painful, I hated it, and begged not to wear them. Mother never relented, made me understand that this would keep me walking. I wore heavy metal braces for 6 years. I had many sprained ankles when I didn’t wear them. I did have a triple arthrodesis on both feet at age 12. My left ankle was so stiff it wouldn’t bend at all, the right one a little less so. My ballet teacher helped me limber them up so I could dance and alternate feet on stairs. I have foot drop but my ankles did not turn over & sprain anymore. I’ve been wearing fixed ankle AFOs (about 15+ years) for the foot drop plus they keep me from walking on the outside edges of my feet. My operation was a success, but I’ve heard of others not lasting. Whatever you choose to do I wish you the best. Alice " Little, Terry (CSR) " wrote: > Haven't had it yet.
