Guest guest
Marleen You stop increasing the dose of Permax when you get relief of symptoms. In your case, it appears that 0.1 mg (2 of the 0.05 mg) is the dose you want to stick with. Later on, you can try to reduce it by half a tablet to 0.075 mg or, if needed, increase it by half a tablet. Remember, the warnings you read are for patients with Parkinson's disease who are taking much more than the RLS dosage. The nasal stuffiness may well disappear as well as the muscle aches. The adverse side effects are usually worse in the beginning than long term. Augmentation is seen in approximately 10-20% of patients on Permax. I guarantee you that the added sleep will be more beneficial than any alleged mental fuzziness will harm you. Good luck on the exam and happy holidays. Guest guest
My neurologist has increased my daily dosage to three 0.5 mgs of Permax in addition to two Klonopin (0.5 mg I think) -- I one Permax at noon, a second one at dinnertime, and the third one at bedtime with the Klonopin. The dosage has never completely relieved the sensations in my legs, but, about a week after I increased the Permax, I began to wake up anywhere from 3 to 6 a.m. with legs crawling. Do you know whether Permax creates a rebound effect like I had with Sinemet? Dr. Blicker and I have talked about Neurontin but she feels like it is similar to Permax and might not be the answer. I do know that I have a pinched nerve between L5 & L6 (?) vertebrae which supposedly causes knee pain and tingling in my right leg. I also have spurs in my neck which are causing irritated nerves to affect my right arm. I'm telling you all this because I'm being treated both by a neurologist and an ortho surgeon (I belong to an HMO) and am wondering if I should request that I be treated by the neurologist only -- specially since the ortho keeps talking about surgery without suggesting physical therapy or alternate treatment first. Any ideas would be appreciated. Also -- what do you know about Mirapex? I am quite tired of not resting without being drugged and it is affecting my memory and ability to do the things I need and want to do. Of course, my age (78) might have something to do with those two things but I refuse to let age get me down. I'm not ready to grow old yet. Thanks for your continuing help to all of us. Have a wonderful Holiday. Eleanor (78) Glendale CA

Guest guest
Hi Kathy & Everyone, I have been on Permax for just over a month now and have had no side effects at all. Unfortunately, like everything else, I am now having to up the dosage because one pill three times a day (.05mg) just won't do much good anymore. I am starting today with .25mg twice daily and will keep you all posted. Sorry you had such a bad time Kathy. Hope you find something you can take. , 63, Florida
