Guest guest
I had an epidural during labor and delivery. I didn't have any problems. My mother in-law had an epidural for back pain, as you described. The only problem she had was an allergic reaction to iodine. Good luck. Guest guest
Lamar here, I have known many that profited from them, but know of no person with CMT that has had them. I do know that my mother (with CMT) had a similar procedure (a spinal differential) Though on short arm crutches, she walked into the hospital. She never walked again and could only stand with assistance for a few seconds. Of course the doctor said that it did not do it, but I know how her condition changed in a few hours. I AM NOT saying that an epidural is not wise, they help many for periods of a few days to much longer. Guest guest
I had chosen an epidural for my ankle fusion, but that gave me a general anesthesia. They said the operation was to long to use epidural.
Guest guest
Lamar here, Just wanted to remind everyone that epidural anesthesia like is frequently used in childbirth, and epidurals used for long term analgesia (pain control) are different. The only similarity is that they are both injected into the epidural space. Totally different drugs are used. Re: epidural injection? > I had an epidural during labor and delivery. Guest guest
I had one when I gave birth to my son 5 1/2 years ago, and my spine is fused from thoracic to almost sacral region. The anesthesiologist got it in first try and it was very effective. It did, however, take several hours more to than the " average " patient to wear off. Guest guest
Lamar here. That is a type of epidural. The medication used and location of the injection differs depending on the desired outcome. Epidurals for chronic pain control usually contain several medications including a long acting steroid and a long acting local anesthetic agent. An epidural is an injection in the epidural space. The procedures are done alike, but the medications and location makes the difference. For surgery or childbirth a faster acting but shorter acting medication is used. For things like herniated discs, you want a long time relief and reduction of inflammation, NOT a total numbing and loss of use from the site down. epidural injection? > > > > > > > Has anyone ever had an epidural injection for pain or anything? Guest guest
Hi Melody I had a spinal bloke with my two year old. As I had a C Section. The Spinal Bloke is similar to an Epidural but apparently is a bit stronger and can't be topped up like the epidural. I had an Epidural for two of my other C sections and it did'nt work. When I had a Spinal Bloke it worked. Lee-anne Join AllAdvantage.com and get paid to surf the Web! Please use my ID (MFK356) when asked if someone referred you. Guest guest
Spinals vs epidurals Yes, they are both pain blocking procedures but are given in different situations. An epidural is given into the space BEFORE the spinal column, thus risking fewer side effects. They are ideal for childbirth because in most cases, the woman can still push the baby out. Not always though. Someone commented that hers took 6 hours to wear off. As with everyone, a Dr never knows how an individual will react to any treatment or medication; it is an educated guess. It is not necessarily a result of CMT that it takes awhile to wear off, it is the nature of the person, the medication, and your body's abillity to break it down and get rid of it. Women can still feel pressure but IDEALLY not pain with an epidural. A spinal actually goes into the spinal canal, thus taking on the risk associated with a spinal., headaches, must remain flat for awhile, No everyone experiences that. But , the person cannot move the lower part of the body usually so they are not ideal in ALL siutations. They are different procedures with different applications, each with their own benefits and risks. a
