Hi everyone,

I too am wrongly dignosised or my problem dropped off on my CMT doorstep.

When I complained of pain and weakness to my last GP, he pretty much ignored

me, or said it would go away, now, my current GP, blames everything on my

CMT. I told him many monthes ago about my hands going numb and the cramping

in my fingers and general weakness, and of course it was my CMT. I knew I

couldn't go the rest of my life with the pain and inability to grasp things

without the pain, so I went to a neurologist, and she got me into see a hand

surgeon, which I am now recovering from surgery. I am reassured that the pain

and cramping will be gone and the numbness was due to carpul tunnel. I can

only hope that eventually I will be able to go back to my drawing and life

before the problem started. So hang in there and keep pushing for

answers. Many Blessings, Michele

Michele, my neurologist sent me to a hand surgeon saying my

problems, pain, weakness, numbness etc. of hands was due to CTS. The

surgeon after checking my hands and NCV tests (AGAIN) said that sugery

wouldn't help my hands as this was due to the CMT. So I really hope you did

indeed have CTS and this was not CMT related. >Becky M.

able to grasp my paintbrush/drawing pencils and get no cramping or pain, how

wonderful!

Hi, I know what all of you mean and the neurologist that I have and the hand

surgeon both told me that since my hands are not clawed or any atrophy

present, and even through the pain and cramping, I have fairly good range of

motion, that my CMT is centered mostly in my legs and hips.I also had all the

pre-symptoms, like repetitive motion in my job, the early signs of

tinglingness,etc... They both ran alot of tests, like the neurography

tests along with other physical tests and CTS is what they determined. Like I

said before, I can only hope...... Thank-You, Michele

Hi, Gang ...

I was referred to the neurologist by my internist, whom I was seeing for a

condition unrelated (I think) to the CMT. I was having a lot of foot pain in

my toes at the time and told the internist about it. When I was diagnosed

with CMT by the neurologist, his comment was: " You are very lucky that the

internist had the insight to recognize a neurological problem. Many people

with CMT are first referred to a podiatrist and have foot surgeries. Then,

when the feet still don't get better, they end up here anyway and could have

avoided the pain, recovery and expense of the surgery. " So ... I guess that

misdiagnosis of CMT people is quite common. At least Ella thinks so ...

,

Yes, I have heard that cMT an CTS have similar symptoms. I had sharp pains

due to excessive keyboarding and knew it was probably my CMT - my

physiatrist confirmed it was not carpel tunnel - I had to change jobs.
