Vitamin B-12 deficiency can cause nerve damage resulting in a tingling

sensation.

Knowing that as we get older our bodies do not absorb Vit B-12 from food as

well as our younger days, I was wondering how many of us take Vit B-12

supplements and/or if you have ever had your B-12 levels checked (during

diagnosis, work-up or otherwise).

Personally, I take a Vit. B-12/folic acid supplement but I have always heard

that your body absorbs very very little of Vit B-12 oral supplements. Does

anyone use the sublingual (under the tongue) Vit B-12? Has anyone ever had

their doc give them a Vit. B-12 shot?

Hi ,

My neurologist checked my B-12 level recently and

found it to be low. I take B-12 tablets - just regular

ones - not sublingual ones. I have never seen

sublingual B-12 tablets - are they supposed to be

better than regular ones?

My father had RLS and his B-12 level was also low. He

received B-12 injections for another reason (loss of

hair and hair pigment). His hair grew back in as dark

as ever (he had gone bald very rapidly and his hair

had come back in snow white). He also had UV-light

therapy. I don't know if the B-12 injections helped

his RLS, sorry.

I never had a B12 shot or been tested for B12 levels but then I've never

been tested for any of the other vitamins I take either. I take B12

sublingually as it then goes directly to the blood stream whereas if taken

by mouth it gets digested before it can do any good. I get it at the GNC.

The main reason I take it is because I'm a vegetarian.

, and the group:

I recently had my B-12, Folic acid , and Iron levels checked at my HMO, and

they were all pronounced as " normal " . I take, among many other things,

Twinlab " B-12 Dots, sublingual " , 500 mcg per dot - 100 come in a quite small

bottle (they fit quite nicely under the tongue), and I get them at Wild Oats,

a health food store. One of the people at the store recommended them to me as

being much better absorbed than the regular B-12 tablets.

Dear

Just read your comment re: Vit B12 & Folic acid.Have read that an over

supply of folic acid mask symptoms of pernicious anaemia which is result of

a Vit B12 deficiency-a deficiency that can take up to five years to display

any symptoms after depletion. Also am using magnesium for PLMS with good

results, and have recently found out that magnesium has also been used

effectively in the past for epilepsy and the interesting thing is that

anyone with a history of convulsive disorders should not be given large

doses of folic acid for a long period of time.

Be careful

Appreciate any feedback.
