Guest guest
Although I do not classify myself as a Freudian per se, it's always been pretty clear to me that dreams and nightmares is the method that our subconscious uses to try to process the events, including stresses, traumas, anxieties and joys in all of our lives. I often find that when people describe their dreams or nightmares, it is usually not too difficult to connect the symbols or themes (no matter how odd) to things that are currently happening, or have happened in the past, in that person's life. There are also certain themes that are almost universal in dreams: e.g. the " anxiety " or " stress " dream where your back in grammar or high school without any clothes on, or you realize that half the school year has passed and there's a class or two that you havn't been to at all.... Just one example... Anyway, as far as CMT is concerned, I'm sure most of us experience a lot of anxiety related to it: will the progression accelerate? How will I handle it if/when I lose the ability to walk independently? to draw? paint? work? etc. And then there's the fear of medical procedures that is common throughout society but which folks with CMT may have to confront on a more frequent basis : needles, sugeries, EMG's.... Surely most of us probably have had some pretty distressing or odd dreams and nightmares!! This group offers a great opportunity, for those who feel comfortable, to process their dreams or nightmares with others who share similar anxieties. It may be helpful to do so, because many of us may have already courageously survived these fears. Thanks for the comments on this topic. - Marti
Guest guest
, I have always had vivid, elaborate, and wild nightmares/dreams. Interesting if this common among CMT people. I have kept a journal just for dreams/nightmares for years and have used some in my artwork. My nightmares as a kid I think were connected to my childhood CMT and how I processed things (or didn't) - like surgery, doctor visits, doctors, needles, wierd things at the hospital, etc. I think now that my nightmares and dreams are still related, only my CMT is manageable, only just have spent 5 months with a ruptured disc no 2 Drs. can agree on the 'treatment' - so last night of all things, dreamt of a big earthquake! I studied some dreamwork at a school in Europe for awhile and learned alot about symbols and how to confront them, etc. I wonder how many of us experience such nightmares and dreams? Guest guest
I don't have elaborate dreams. But, in my dreams I can walk well, and there are no wheelchairs. Guest guest
Lamar here, About 10% of the worlds population are having dreams of earthquakes, floods, and land changes. many of these dreams seem to be almost precognitive as they are virtually alike all over the world. they are amazingly like things predicted thousands of years ago by the Aztec and other groups. Carl Jung explained them as coming from the " collective unconscious mind " a biological or chemical memory passed down by generations. Dream experts, do say that nightmares and repetitive dreams are important. Our subconscious is trying to alert us to something. They are often allegorical, and we have to look into the real meaning. I do sincerely doubt these dreams relate to CMT, but I would glad to discuss them privately with any of you. BTW, dreams are often used in psychotherapy. A dream of yourself having your current physical limitations shows an acceptance. If you only see yourself as running and " normal " in your dreams most therapists agree something in your sub conscious mind is not accepting your " handicap " . Guest guest
That goes for all of us Martha but if we were like everyone else, life wouldn't be quite so interesting, we wouldn't be members of CMTUS and we wouldn't have some many lovely emails Love Sue XXXX Re: nightmares/dreams I don't have elaborate dreams.
