In France, 49% of population uses homeopathic remedies. In Belgium, 84% of conventional doctors offer homeopathy as treatment. While 74% of same conventional doctors are trained in accupuncture treatments. The use of homeopathic treatments are on the rise 30% on average in Europe per year, and in Eastern Europe the average is higher still at 42% per year. Complementary practitioners encourage self care and self responsibility. They also demand more from their patients in the way of lifestyle and diet changes. How can this be detremental? IMO, Complimentary medicine is exactly that, complimentary. They should aid in the healing process with whatever conventional remedies you are using. To exclude one or the other entirely is not wise. We've come a long way to get where medical science is today. Nothing is always perfect, but I still consider it to be the best there is in the world.....bar none. Guest guest
Dear Connie and all. I am no saint, and it is hard to clarify all details of ones personality in one or two cyberspatial correspondences, but I am a sensible young lady with a very level head. Anyway, just want to relate when last week, I asked my favourite herbalist if there was a herbal remedy " quick fix " for headache I could use both for myself and my partner and/or my step-children in place of panadol. I'm pretty sure that when Josh complains of a headache there are no hidden medical problems, I just think he spends too much time at the computer-he gets stress headaches at the back of the neck and shoulders-his father is an outdoors freak and makes sure that when we get them every weekend, they go rowing, or play a hit of tennis, but when they arrive at our place, they are usually exhausted by being allowed to stay up til all hours playing games on the computer. Heck. I watched him once at the screen, and he didn't blink for at least a minute! His eyes were red raw! (This isn't new partner against ex-wife,-she's weird.) Back to the herbalist- his reply was to treat the cause. I replied that I knew what the cause was, but as we don't always succeed in our efforts to be " pure " , we need a bit of a hand sometimes. His reply was to try and sell me something that would relax me/us. I replied that I had all the needed stuff, but I would like to treat the symptom every now and then when it was not successful. He said that alternative therapy was not about treating the symptoms, but the WHOLE body. I said granted, but aren't the symptoms part of the whole?? I left him with his mouth open, and went home and took a panadol. I don't know what I would do each month if I had to endure those loverly cramps without my beloved naprogesic. I get severe tummy pains, and no alternative therapy works, so I hit the medicine cabinet. The point I'd like to make, is that because I use them occasionally, and only when all other SENSIBLE avenues have been exhausted, I feel that I am still in control. I do not feel that it is the other way around, and that the drugs are in CONTROL OF ME. I could not think of anything worse than not being able to get through the day without taking medication. Medication that causes tummy trouble, so I take something for the tummy upsets. That medication causes tinnitus, so I take something for that. This in turn causes constipation, so I take something for THAT etc. It would be for me, trying to unravel the inside of a golf ball to get back to what the original ailment was. This is the main reason I choose alternaive therapy first. Sorry people,I am not passing judgement on those that really NEED the meds to survive- I may be in that boat someday-, but this is how I FEEL. I thank God that I am healthy-relatively... All humble respects , but we will probably disagree on a lot of things. I would still welcome the opportunity to pick your brains sometimes though (professionally speaking that is...). Regards, Helena downunder.
