surgery - a last resort?

Larry, why is surgery now a last resort? When I was a kid growing up

with CMT doctors were so 'knife happy' - fortunately I escaped all but

once! I realize recovery time for surgery is harder as we age, I just

don't understand why surgery would be a last resort? As opposed to say a

person staying pumped up full of pain pills that a type of surgery could

correct? What are your thoughts? Anyone?

Hi, Gretchen ...

When I ended up with the neurologist for my crushed discs in the neck, the

first thing he told me after running his tests was that I needed surgery and

the only way I would come out if it was to have surgery. When the

neurosurgeon finished the operation, he told me that I actually had two

crushed discs and that the nerves were so flattened that they looked like

pieces of adhesive tape. In my case, surgery should have been the first resort

... not spending six weeks being sucked into the false promises of a money

hungry chiropractor.

I would happily resort to surgery if it meant it didn't hurt so much but at

present I don't have that choice.

With surgery I have had a lot. Before surgery pills and a Zombie state. After

surgery no pain. So I have to hang my feet over the foot of the bed to sleep,

and I will never get on my tip toes again. I don't hurt anymore.
