Guest guest
Hello fellow CMTers, I use to also trip a lot, but not as much now. I remember about 7 years ago, I was late for work and trying to walk as fast as I can. The pavement I was walking on was made of brick, I tripped and must have rolled about six feet. I rolled off the sidewalk into the gutter, and into the path of a school bus. The driver of the bus didn't even slow down, I got up as fast as I could and the bus whizzed by me. I hurt my knee and was really embarrassed. I guess to other people walking by, it looked as if I threw myself in front of the bus. I could feel my knee bleeding and hobbled onto work, I was in a bad mood for the rest of the day. Another time I was walking with my coworkers to get lunch. We were walking down Fulton St., a busy street at lunchtime. Due to the high volume of pedestrian traffic the street is closed to cars. The street also has cobblestones and of course I tripped. There was a few teens behind me that started to laugh, and I turned around and gave them a look, that stopped their laughter in its tracks. I guess the look was similar to if you laugh again someone is going to get an ass kicking. I also hurt my knee, one of my coworkers asked if I was all right. I played it off and said yes. I have tripped so many times that my shins look like a battle ground. But what amazes me the most is, when you trip most people just walk by as if nothing happened. I was so embrassed. I kept thinking ohh when I look up people will be laughing at me. Then I noticed no one was looking at me or offering to help.. Then I was mad. To make it worse at our 10 yr reunion I told my friend the story and we had a good laugh. Then she wrote it in the reunion news letter. It didn't look as funny on paper. More like I was begging for apologies. UGH FRIENDS! She signed my name.. I'll get her on the 20th.

Guest guest
Hi, Al ... Yeah ... I have had the very same experience. Why do they just " walk by? "
Guest guest
I know what you mean about falling. My knees are nothing but scars, Fell one time and feet turned when I fell so that I have scars on both ankles. Never a broken bone, that's a miracle. Guest guest
I ALSO HAVE RIGHT FOOT DROP. MY ORTHOTIST FITTED ME WITH A HEIL BRACE WHICH ALL BUT ELIMINATED THIS TYPE OF TRIPPING.THE BRACE IS FITTED ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE SHOE AND IS VELCROED AROUND THE ANKLE. IT LIFTS THE TOE OF THE SHOE AND STOPS IT FROM CATCHING ON EVERYTHING. I USE TO TRIP 5 TO 10 TIMES A WEEK. I HAVEN " T TRIPPED ONCE IN THE 4 MONTHS SINCE I GOT THE BRACE

Guest guest
I have braces also but still seem to catch my toes on stuff if I am not looking down. I have to watch my feet when I walk or I trip. I think it has more to do with the loss of feeling in my feet. Sometimes I just don't know where they are if I am not looking at them. Does that make since? Guest guest
<< I was told years ago, that " displacement " went along with my CMT. >> True. And it's also called proprioception. We don't always know where we are in space, or where a part of us is. It's a recognized phenomena, as says. Kat

Guest guest
Do you have any other information on this Heil brace - manufacturer, Web site, etc? Since I have this huge knee brace on the left leg, I've been reluctant to order the AFO for the right foot. The picture I've been shown of the AFO indicates that it extends from foot to below the knee, so I can't see how I would walk with the two braces without getting the two braces entangled and tripping on those! Now wouldn't that be a picture?! I haven't found anything on the Web, so would appreciate any further info. Thanks. Carolyn > I ALSO HAVE RIGHT FOOT DROP.
