Guest guest
Jane, Again, all you know what broke lose, when my mother started taking Sinemet CR, 50/200 with augmentation and rebound. She literally ended up pacing the floors around the clock much to my horror as I tried to find out what was causing the excruitatin feelings in her legs and went from neurologist to neurologist to neurologist -- three to no avail! This was two years ago. We then meet Dr. Elaty who had a medical journal article documenting approximately 80% experience augmentation with Sinemet so at least we then understood what was causing it to tackle the problem. Dr. Elaty was horrified to see my mother looking like warmed over death from lack of sleep and although it took time, did help us chart a course to tame the monster and she is now doing extremely well. About the same time, augmentation/rebound from Sinemet was mentioned in the RLS Foundation newsletter. Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I just got home from seeing my neurologist - today was a really good day for me to go - I am sitting in the waiting room fidgeting and tapping my feet, etc. and she is standing there watching me - I didn't hear her walk up. I have been taking up to 5 Sinemet a day and 3 Mirapex - 2 of the Sinemet for daytime symptoms. She has put me on sustained release Sinemet (for daytime) - stay on regular at night. She doesn't want to do anything drastic right now like take me completely off Sinemet since it does work for me and I am in the middle of a major depression which may wind up with my entering a hospital in the next week or so if switching to Zoloft doesn't help. Anyhow, she ordered ferritin and B-12 blood levels (last B-12 was low) and something else - can't remember. She is going to discuss adding Neurontin to my RLS cocktail with my psychiatrist. And the icing on the cake, I am scheduled for a brain MRI on Friday - constant headaches. I think this is just a precaution. But now I get to go to another specialist - a headache specialist! And then I am supposed to see a rheumatologist and a vascular surgeon. Minor postscript - I see my Ob-Gyn and dentist (oral surgery) next week. I grew up in a small town in S.C. where Dr. Lee Nesbitt (Dr. Lee) took care of you from the time you were still in the womb until you were put into the ground! I cannot afford to maintain myself. Any real rich men on the list who are into restoring old houses, works of art, middle-aged women who are falling apart? If there were were a blue book of values for middle-aged women, I wonder if there would be an entry for someone in my shape. I drive a 15 year old car with 200,000 miles on it that has a higher trade-in value than I do!!! Anyhow, will let you all know about the ferritin and the B-12 and if I have a brain tumor or am pregnant (that would be a trick - no reproductive parts left and no sex life) and how much the tooth fairy leaves me! Jane Re: alternative vs. conventional - whatever works and causes the least side effects - who cares which one?????? I certainly don't. Just be careful if you are like me and take a number of meds - both alternative and conventional med cans be affected by what you eat, drink and when you take a number of meds, you always have to concern yourself (and you better do this - don't count on your doctor to do it!) with meds interferring with each other. _________________________________________________________
