Guest guest
Hi all! I've been enjoying these boards for about three weeks now and the " menstrual cycle " issue has brought me out of the closet (so to speak). I have a history of RLS dating back to my teens, but was always able to control it with stretching, aspirin, and relatively short duration periods. As I got older it seemed to get worse, but somewhat manageable. It kept me up, but not for hours into the middle of the night. But... I had a hysterectomy in 1996 and after my pain meds prescription ran our (vicoden), I thought I was going to go nuts. I was walking the floor until 4:00 a.m. I would lay on the couch and just cry myself to sleep. Nothing would work. Until I finally went to the doctor about it. He prescribed Ativan (lorazepum) and I have been able to go back to " controlling " my RLS. But I had to take meds every night. Well, now I'll get to my point. Recently I ran out of my estrogen (Premarin) and low and behold my RLS symptons reduced. It has been absolutely AMAZING! Of course, that puts me in a dilemma - Do I deal with hot flashes, the worry about osteoporosis, hair loss, etc. I finally went to the doctor for my 500 mile check up and the doctor is going to reduce the potency of my Premarin by half. I am praying that will help. Has anyone taking estrogen replacement been affected in the same say I have??
