CMT Hands.

I don't remember the site I took this from but thought it was interesting.

Hands

Basically the anatomy of the hands and feet is very similar. A classic CMT hand

tends to have hollows where

there should be muscle bulk - at the base of the thumb, both back and palm of

the hand, and between the

tendons on the back of the hand controlling the fingers. It also can tend to

curl, as the muscles which allow the

fingers to straighten waste, allowing the stronger palm muscles to pull the

fingers into a fist. Try to keep the

fingers flexible.

The best way of coping with the lack of muscle power in the hands is to acquire

a range of gadgets to suit you

that can replace the need for fine manual dexterity and strength - such as

button hooks, gadgets for helping take

jar lids off, electric can openers etc. Your Occupational Therapist should be

able to help in obtaining items such

as these.
