Guest guest
I have had leg cramps for as long as I can remember...sometimes I can go months without any and then like recently I have been having them four or five times a week...for me they always seem to occur at night. I will wake up and my entire calf muscle is pushed up and my foot is all cramped...I have to get up and walk around and try and push the heel of my foot to the ground...after I get the cramp mostly worked out I will continue to have twitches for a while and if i move my leg or foot the wrong way..it will just cramp up all over again (this whole thing makes for a very looooong sleepless night). I am 30 and have the x-linked type of cmt and don't show any wasting of muscle in my legs, I don't really show any signs of having cmt except for a very very slight low tone in my feet. I never knew if the cramping was due to the disease or was just something missing from my body...such as potassium, anyway...my question is do I need to go to the doctor to be monitored while taking extra potassium or can I just take it over the counter....and if so, how much should I be taking daily?
