Guest guest
(Hi everyone, for those of you interested in foot orthotics/pedorthics, this was sent to me this morning and thought those of you that need to find someone might be able to look at the website and get some foot help. And thank you Carolyn for sending this!) --Gretchen Carolyn Aidman of Dress Ease contacted the Pedorthic Footwear Association to ask that we provide you with information on pedorthics and what a certified pedorthist does. Pedorthics (pronounced ped-OR-thix) is the design, manufacture, modification and fit of footwear, including foot orthoses, to alleviate foot problems caused by disease, congenital condition, overuse or injury. A little less formally, pedorthics is the field that uses shoes and foot orthotics to help people remain as mobile as possible. A certified pedorthist, or C.Ped., is an individual who has been recognized by the Board for Certification in Pedorthics (BCP) as qualified to practice pedorthics. They work with people who have temporary or long-term foot conditions, using shoes and foot orthoses as therapeutic tools to address a variety of problems. People with medical conditions that affect their feet often need footwear prescriptions. C.Peds view the foot, the foot orthosis and the shoe as a unit which must fit properly and function according to the doctor's prescription to assist the patient. Additional information is available at BCP's web site, http://www.cpeds.org The web site also carries a Directory of C.Peds, with names, addresses and Yahoo locational maps. I hope this information will be of assistance.
