Guest guest
Wrong again ! Osteopaths are and always have been full fledged doctors. They perform surgery, dole out prescriptions and yes, they do do spinal manipulations. Their education is exactly the same as MD's with an emphasis on the " Osteo " . I went to one years ago when my back was killing me and instead of fencing me in to weekly sessions he fixed my back in one visit. He treated my daughter when she was brought home from college deathly sick. She'd seen an MD in Burlington who had her take erythromicin for what ailed her (I don't remember what the initial problem was). Doc told me not to ever let her take that antibiotic again as she was deathly allergic to it. Again in one visit he prescribed the correct medicine and she immediately felt better. Until that visit he'd never seen my daughter before. I don't believe in knocking every area of medicine that doesn't fit in with the allopathic specialty. Long before allopathy was started just over 100 years ago in europe the human race plugged along quite well without it, give or take a little bloodletting etc. and now the medical establishment is getting mighty nervous with all these new super germs and viruses that are cropping up. Jeanne and Mr. Biggles in Poultney VT Where after a couple of doses of Pulsatilla (from a flower ) my cold symptoms are much better and I'm once again full of piss and vinegar!! Guest guest
well andrew i must admit i agree with ms piss and vinegar on this one although my experience with osteopaths is limited.......long long ago in a galaxy far far away at fairchild afb in spokane washington we had an osteopath on staff who worked in the flight surgeons office. his advice was always sought out at senior staff meetings when tough medical cases were discussed and the few times i saw him for my personal health care i was always impressed with his knowledge of 'traditional' medicine. I realize that osteopaths are licensed physicians. I also realize that they are allowed to perform many, if not all, of the same functions as MDs (depending upon the state). Moreover, I even know that they take many--if not most--of the same medical school classes as docs who get MDs. However--according to my MD wife--osteopaths don't actually take *all* the classes necessary to get an MD; and by that I mean a " medical degree; " i.e., they can't legally put " MD " after their name. Rather, they receive a degree in osteopathy. Don't get me wrong; by the same token, MDs don't take all the classes necessary to become a DO, either. I have nothing against DOs in most circumstances, and I wouldn't mind it if my GP was an osteopath--in fact, I think I'd prefer it. But I did, at least, think there was this technical distinction (which, in reality, may be a distinction without much of a difference). Am I wrong, or did I just misunderstand you? Hal P.S.--I realize that there are some docs with both degrees; but I'm speaking of the majority of MDs and DOs. P.P.S.--It's okay if I'm wrong on this, because I'll just blame it all on my wife. :-) ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
