Guest guest
Gretchen, Lamar here, Shoes are a MUST. The bottom of the AFO is as slick as glass. Also, there is nothing to hold the foot part if you do not have a shoe on, as well as many AFO's do not extend the full length of the foot. There is no reason an AFO could not be made to wear without a shoe. It would need an attached sole and extra straps. You would either need bilateral AFO's or something on the other foot to compensate for the difference or it would be like walking with one shoe on and one shoe off. AFO's and walking barefoot When it is hot in the summer can those of you who wear AFO's wear them without shoes and still have them give you support? Or when you wear AFO's is it necessary to wear shoes? Guest guest
Carolyn here. What about hose? Since I work in a business environment, I would prefer to wear hose and to wear an oxford type shoe with the AFO (when I get it). Can I get by that way, or must it be a sock? BTW, I checked out the dressease.com shoe site. For anyone else who needs a " business " style shoe that will accommodate (so they say) an AFO, their shoes are very attractive. The style I like best is called " Carolyn " (no kidding). The store I called said they cost $125. That's too much for me right now, but maybe soon.... Also, when I look in my closet and see all the shoes I've bought that I couldn't wear, I think maybe that's not such a bad price after all. Regards. > Dear Gret, as you know i wear AFOs and yes you have got to wear > shoes, bummer!and the worse > part cotton knee socks,i do anyway.but i also wear new balance shoes as they > are so comftable.have > a good day all!! Guest guest
Gretchen: I have to wear shoes with them (I wear Rockport Prowalkers). Mine are made out of methylmylacrylate (got that?) and is very smooth, so I could slip very easily. The brace would still give support but I wouldn't be nearly as confident with my gait. When it's hot I wear a cool dress so my legs are getting air; usually I wear pants.
