It goes up and then to the left so it dosen't have to be so LONG! Mobil home parks have them sometimes. Maybe you can buy a ramp from a Mobil home dealer? Guest guest
Sue is right .I come down stairs the same way.and I go up hand over hand on the rail. No rails I dont do.Crossing streets I dont mind asking for help. People mostly are kind and it makes them feel good to help.I know sometimes I am too care ful but its better than finding my self on the ground or worse.so take it easy.Gwen

Stairs are not a good thing for us CMT folks I say they are an accident waiting to happen. A good point was made about getting a key for an elevator if he has one at the school. I know a lot of the newer schools do this it is worth checking into. Cathy >> It is actually against the law if the school denies Cody a key to the elevator. Guest guest
Hello , We have not asked for a key for the elevator at school for Co. He has absolutely no wish to take it, and as I've said before, until we can totally desensitize him to it, we have to help him by teaching the kids in school around him, to be aware of his problem and to help him when he needs it. They have all been supportive and , so far, very understanding. The school, teachers and admin. have gone out of their way, to help Cody and the other special kids in the school, which there are quite a few. Like I said before, I am truely blessed. Thank-you for your concern, Michele

Guest guest
, We attend an IEP revision, twice a year, in which Cody's progress is discussed ,new goals for him are set and new problems are addressed. His autistic teacher, his regular teacher, all his therapists, school counselor, and the principal, when she can make it. Sometimes a particular teacher, like his PE comes in to offer specialized advice. I know all the staff are working hard to help Cody, and he seems to be very comfortable and content. If a problem comes up in between our meetings, any of the people involved can call a meeting, including my husband and I. Wisconsin is a wonderful place to raise a special child. In case you were wondering, Cody was dignosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, when he was 3 and has been in specialized classrooms year round, until 1st grade where he was slowly mainstreamed. By the end of 1st grade, he spent 90% of his time in the regular classroom, only going out during therapies. This entire past year, he spent in the regular classroom, and again only going out for therapies. This year, he will be out of the regular classroom more often, because he is in TAG. Trust me, my husband and I are aware of all the laws in our state, and so far, everyone involved with Cody are supportive and caring. Guest guest
Thanks for the note. I wanted to make sure the school had it all in wrighting. Adam has LD and CMT so his IEP plan is priceless. Sometimes I know more about the Law then the school does. So far they have been wonderful with my boys. Other schools do not follow the law and fight the IEPS all the way. Maybe it has something to do with money? Guest guest
: If I knew my young son was having difficulties, I would try to address it somehow, knowing what I went thru as a youngster. At that young of an age, I might even change his school to one that is more accessible. I never complained when I was young, just struggled along. Now I would do my best to accommodate a known disability so the one that has it doesn't have to concentrate on it so much. It's fatiguing. Best wishes to you.
