I never get the flu shots, and I haven't gotten the pneumonia shot that is

for older people. My theory is that if I am so debilitated that either one

would take me it must be time to go. I've lived a full life, and I still have

many good things that are going on in my life, but I don't want to be holding

on by a thread some day. I have never had a case of the flu.

I'm sure that younger people don't understand this, which is natural, but it

works for me as a retired person.

Our perspective on life is apt to change thru the years.

We were hounded for years to get flu shots for my 13 yo with CMT. She always

got sick shortly there after. You know, the flu shots are merely a GUESS at

what will hit the states. The CDC travels the world and sees what viruses are

out there and guess the best they can as to what will hit the states. Thus,

they develop the flu shot. But even if immunized, you can get another strain

that you were not innoculated with in the first place. For the past two

years, we resisted the DR's suggestion to get my daughter a flu shot. And

thus far, she has had a relatively healthy winter.

Hi Jim, that is very interesting about the neuro diseases and the flu

shot. I don't get the flu shot just because I'm in general good health

and relatively (lol) young. I THINK the flu shot is a 'live virus' one,

tho, so somewhere there must be some research on the flu shot and neuro

diseases. Anyone know?

Gretchen, since I worked in a local school system before having to

retire, I used to take one every year. But a few years back, I mentioned

that to my neurologist, and he said that he doesn't recommend them, but

since I already had taken them for years, I probably would be all right. It

was later that year that my wife mentioned the memo she saw about flu shots.

That gave me added food for thought, and I decided to no longer get them.

Since that time, I've relied on vitamins and Echinacea to help build up my

resistance.
