It is easy to be misunderstood in a forum of this nature. I need to expand on

my comments about wheelchairs/scooters.

Some doctors speak of them almost like a threat to a newly diagnosed CMTer.

It may sound scary. In reality, although no one can predict when or if you

may need one, if you do come to need one, it will be a blessing to have. At

that point it will be the difference between being stuck at home and and

getting out. It means having some freedom and independence. It may be the

difference between being too exhausted to want to do anything because the

struggle to get around is so wearing, and the impetus that motivates you to

remain active because you still have some energy.

It will also get you to the front of the line at places such as Disneyland or

the airport. ;-)

Using a wheelchair or scooter is not a sign of weakness or giving in; it

shows that you still want to be out and about and not so worn out. If you

need it, use it! (The same can be said of AFOs, orthotic inserts, and other

aids.)

I hope THIS is not misunderstood. As I frequently say, do whatever you need

to that fits your individual requirements. We are all different.
