Guest guest
Hi, Carolyn ... You really jogged my memory with your experience of falling UP the stairs. I did the same thing when I was 7 years old. I fell up the basement stairs, which were made out of concrete. I caught one of the stairs just under the chin area and got a terrific gash ... bled like crazy. My Mom was really scared because of all the blood. A neighbor lady taped the cut together and it healed OK, even without stitches. Ha ... they were pretty clever and resourceful in those days. Those were the days of the Victory Gardens and chickens and rabbits in the back yard. People really couldn't afford doctors much. Guest guest
I too have gone backward when I lose my balance. I can be standing still and start going backward, have to grab hold of whatever is there to steady myself.
Guest guest
Hello Carolyn and everyone else, After you related your story about the office fall, I just had to write and tell you , you are very lucky you didn't break something. My Mother fell, she too has CMT, in the same type of fall and she broke her leg in 4 different places! Slipped and KABOOM. I hope you are OK now. My recent fall was at our local mall and unfortunately, there was nothing there to blame it on but my screwed up feet. Anyway, one minute I was walking, and the next second, I was on my hands and knees, looking at the pattern of the tiles. Well, A guy came over immediately and asked if I was alright,(Yea, right) I asked if he could just help me get upright, I would take it from there, and he hesitated, but helped in the end. I shook all over, not only from the pain, but the embarassment. His hesitation hurt too. I now use a cane and sometimes a walking stick, not at the same time. I haven't gone anywhere since my CTS surgery, but as soon as I'm able, I will. Screw them that don't understand and lend a helping hand. Oh, just for everyones information, the mall wasn't crowded that day, only busy. Kindness and Love, Michele
Guest guest
Oh, my... Victory Gardens and, for me, chickens, ducks, and a couple of cows in the back yard. Fresh milk every day, churning into butter. One of my earliest memories is of my little grandma killing chickens so they could be cooked. She actually wrung their necks - that's the way it was done in those days, kids! , I have chuckled at some of your posts, having spent seven years in Berkeley in the late 60's, early 70's. No more details about that needed.... Cheers! > Hi, Carolyn ... > > You really jogged my memory with your experience of falling UP the stairs. I > did the same thing when I was 7 years old. Guest guest
Here is a bit of memorabilia for you ... People usually ask how the poor would be taken care of if the government didn't help out in the health area. In the old days, in the USA there were, like today, many lodges ... The Elks, Optimists ... etc. Each lodge had a " Lodge Doctor " who would provide his services free to members. Each member contributed a small amount monthly toward this " health insurance. " No one abused the system as that was a more moral time in this country. Things have really changed, that's for sure.
Guest guest
Thanks for the memories. When I was a child my Dad was one of the two doctors in town. He used to make house calls, and would get paid with food, milk, preserves, and once someone gave him a piece of land and a mobile home. He used to come home and tell my mother. " Well, had another baby today. " I always wondered why he didn't bring them home. cmontana@... wrote: Oh, my... Victory Gardens and, for me, chickens, ducks, and a couple of cows in the back yard. Guest guest
Yes, I'm fine now. But it was really scary and the desk didn't move an inch! > Hello Carolyn and everyone else, > After you related your story about the office fall, I just had to write > and tell you , you are very lucky you didn't break something. Guest guest
Hi, Martha. You're welcome! I remember a doc who actually made house calls too! It really happened. Hard to believe. You know, in spite of everything, and in spite of pain, etc. and falls, we really need to keep those memories alive! Here's to it.
