Guest guest
Lamb's wool is a great suggestion. Ballerinas use it to cushion the ends of pointe shoes so they can stay on their toes " on pointe " in comfort. And if you have never felt a pointe shoe, the toe is basically a block of wood (at least that is what it feels like.) I have also seen a dancer's aid for the toes that is a kind of gel pak. It just occurred to me that these might be useful for CMTers as well. You can find them in a dancer's supply shop or online. I'll see if I can find any links for this particular item. Guest guest
<< The Lamb's Wool has been a life saver for me for about 14 years now! >> I'm curious about what type of Lamb's Wool, what form. I tried some and by the end of the day it was small wad that didn't help me. Yours must be different. When I had a toe that curled under and caused trouble, I tried one of the little washable, durable foam pads that Dr. Leonard's catalog shows (p. 4 in a recent catalog). It reminds me of a small carrot cut lenthwise so one side is curved and the other side is flat. It has an elastic loop to go over a toe and hold it under the toes. It's listed as Hammer and Bent Toe Relief! So far I haven't seen them in a store. They are washable and dry very quickly. It cured my problem toe. There are also small foam tubes one can cut up so that there is one section to fit over each toe, protecting it. They are washable and last a long time. Drug stores sell them. I don't recommend the ones in the Dr. Leonard's catalog that are described as Superior Protection for Sensitive Toes because they are flimsy and wear out quickly. (Foot Smart Digi-Cushions.) Previous Dr. Leonard's catalogs have carried the better, thick foam tubes. Kat

Guest guest
Hi Kat, Peggie here. I use the Dr. Schouls Lambs Wool - found in the foot care center in most stores. It does start big and get smaller, but you have to use a pretty big section (full) then it pushes down in a couple of days to fitting under my hammer toes very well. I have seen the other hammer toe thing that you were talking about in my orthopedic shoe store, but it didn't look like it would be very comfortable to me. So didn't try it. The Lamb's Wool has worked so well, that I just didn't want to change.... The other looked a little to firm for me and afraid it would cause more problems. And, I don't like change! I am currently breaking in a new pair of shoes and have problems with them, and it seems like, any thing new that I try! But, probably just me! Have a good day. The other looked a little to firm for me and afraid it would cause more problems. And, I don't like change! >> I'm a firm believer in " if it works don't change it. " My suggestions are for people who are still looking. Just some possibilities. I had not considered the half carrot hammertoes thing, but the orthopedic surgeon who was evaluating my feet put one under my toes and sent me home. It cured the toe problem I had. I avoided surgery on my toes!! Yippeee! It is soft and I am never aware that it is there. Just because it helped me doesn't mean it will help anyone else, but it might. (It did NOT correct my hammer toe, but it did stop my toes from curling under.) The foam tubes might be the best option for CMTers who have hammertoes that rub on their shoes. They are very soft and do not take up room in the shoe (even though they look thick). They protect the tops of the toes. I'll try a big clump of Lamb's Wool the next time my toes bother me. I have plenty left. (^.^) I never take kindly to change either. I drove my first car for 35 years! We've lived in the same house for 35 years. Our 40th wedding anniversary is this year. I don't like changes. LOL Kat
Guest guest
Hi Kat, Peggie here. Yes, Yes and Yes!!! They wanted to do surgery on my toes, and told me to use the Lamb's Wool as a " temporary measure " until I could find the time to have the surgery. I still don't have the time!!! And not about to let them cut on my feet for any reason! So the " temporary measure " is just long term for me!!! And yes, as long as it works, don't change it - that's me! And especially for my feet. Those things that I saw, were too bulking and hard, not soft... that's why I wasn't interested in them. They probably have tons of that stuff available, but haven't needed to look as am happy with what I do. Hate to have to buy new shoes, purse (even my Husband hates to be with me then!), you name it! However, we are moving... and normally don't stay in one place that long! But good for you! I didn't want to move, but have decided to think of it as a new adventure and looking forward to a different life style... and that helps!! Take care and have a good evening!
