I didn't know what to expect from it, though my neurologist did warn me it would be uncomfortable. It was just like being shocked. My neurologist seemed sensitive to the pain he was causing me so he only tested a few fingers on one hand and and a few toes on one foot. I was very curious about the test,so I was focusing on what he was doing with the computer recording the graph results he was getting, so this helped distract me. Afterwards the diagnosis of CMT was more of a shock to me!!! I did have a very bad time sleeping that night as my legs were twitching and restless all night.
