Guest guest
a said-- Why would one have this procedure done?------- -------------------------------------------------------- a, if you were referring to my post about my daughter's full spinal fusion, it was necessary to give her a full life-span. Her scoliosis (curvature of the spine) was pulling her body both horizontally and upright, into a shape that the doctors said was beginning to put pressure on her lungs and heart, and would cause death in her 20's/ She was 1 month shy of 13 when the operation was performed. The surgeon was able to straighten her shoulders, but she still has one shoulder blade that sticks out. Her curve was up to 75 degrees off the line her spinal column should have been. He was able to get her down to 40 degree curve, and during the time the spine was fusing, the spine was pulled up to 45 deg. curve before full fusion stopped it. She now has a Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling, is married with 2 children, and works at a major hospital in Baltimore in her Rehab capacity. We are very proud of her.
