Guest guest
My understanding of what I have read so far is leaky gut syndrome is where your not absorbing vitamins and nutrients properly because you are overrun with candida. But please don't hold me to that till I do some more investigating. I like to read very much. So I will read everything I can get my hands on about this. And I will absolutely let the group know what I come up with. I came up with info on msm at the website www.cybervitamins.com. I'm sorry I don't know how to put it here so you can click on it and just go there. Like I said I am still very computer illiterate. Best Regards. Guest guest
Coco, I think it's great when someone finds relief any way they can. Good luck to you and let me know how it works out. I would love to try it myself but chicken out at the last minute. Kim
Guest guest
I was not going to comment at all about this Chinese medicine treatment, but since so much is being said anyway I figured I might as well put my two cents in. I hope we don't go overboard here and overlook the wisdom of some of the comments in regard to Chinese medicine. Quite often some of us are so defensive about alternative treatments that we are unable to understand the point being made. I don't think any of us are refusing to consider the " unknown " ......we would all like to believe that there is a new safe answer out there. We " bad " guys have never told anyone not to try something unless we deemed it dangerous. The great danger here, though, is that others might be influenced........and this is very important one. I hesitate to speak up because I know I will be jumped on immediately.....but we should not be having treatments where doctors " hold something that is red on one end and smoking " over us.....or hold something in their hand and move it all over our body, as in one treatment currently making the rounds......without asking lots and lots of questions! It's not the treatment I am knocking so much as the fact that you let it happen without even knowing what he was doing. I would have had to have that process explained to me in full........before he started doing it. I would never go to a doctor and just let him do anything he wanted to me without a full explanation first. In my book this could be dangerous......it probably isn't.......but who knows? I would still want some time to think about it.....and as you all say......I am entitled to my opinion also. Regarding leaky gut syndrome..........I don't think the gut can be diagnosed as leaking without someone going in and taking a good look at it......this should not be something that you guess at. I'm sure it is more pleasant to have someone guess, but I would not want my treatment based on that theory. This is your life here, people.......I just don't feel anyone should become so anti-traditional medicine that they worship all alternative treatments. Same goes for the yeast thing which has been done to death....and made fortunes for many. Alternative medicine is at a very important crossroads today. It is being looked at very carefully and could offer many wonderful treatments for us in the future. But if we do not question any of it and continue to be taken advantage of the way some " doctors " are doing......they could ruin it for everyone, and hold this process back. I believe ne was correct is her comment about using a little of both in our treatments. We do need to pursue these new things and investigate their possibilities. But we also need to exercise a little prudence and common sense and make sure we keep good records of what we take and how we take it in a way that will enable us to know if what we did actually did anything for us. That's it for now.......hope all are sleeping well....... Connie
Guest guest
In a message dated 4/18/99 8:41:54 AM !!!First Boot!!!, susanne2740@... writes: << I think COCO and others who are aggressively seeking other avenues are demonstrating courage and vision - knowing how many people will make fun of methods with which they are not familiar, and yet still be willing to share their experiences, takes guts! >> You mean it takes " leaky " guts, right? There are 2 kinds of acupuncture. One is a modern procedure based on scientific data (vision of the future), the other is a mystic ritual of ancient Chinese metaphysics (vision into the past). Unfortunately, the " past " acupuncture is the kind practiced by the 10,000 mostly nonmedical acupuncturists in the US. For a brief lesson....Chinese needle acupuncture is explained by 3000 year old prescientific theories. Illness is supposedly caused by blockages of Qi, the elixir of life, traveling in 12 hypothetical meridians corresponding to the Chinese 12 divisions of the day. Needles are selectively placed in 365 acupoints, 1 for each day of the year, following the laws of the 5 elements, wood, water, fire, metal and earth. Acupuncture unblocks Qi, thus curing illness and restoring the balance of yin and yang. Now, it takes about 1,500 hours of training in Chinese philosophy to " practice " the " past " metaphysical form of acupuncture. Now, it takes about 2 hours (yep, only 2 hours) to teach the USEFUL office procedure of evidence-based (future) acupuncture! How does acupuncture work? SIMPLE! Acupuncture is mediated by endorphin mechanisms.....serotonin, opioid receptors, gene expression of different neuropeptides in the central nervous system. BUT, guess what! Recent " modern " studies using evidence-based acupuncture has demonstrated that NOT point specificity, but rather proper stimulation of ANY POINT can enhance gene expression of peptides for CENTRAL pain control. Hence, it does NOT matter where you stick the needle.......that is the hocus-pocus part of acupuncture. Guess what......you can just skip all the needle sticks and simply use electrical stimulation continuously over 30 minutes with vigorous stimulation producing mild muscle movements and viola.........pain relief! THIS IS A CENTRAL EFFECT ON THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM THAT IS NOT POINT SPECIFIC! Guess what, uh, we have medicines that kinda do the same thing without all the " metaphysical " hype! " just gimme one needle that is plugged in " RAINBOWPED@...
Guest guest
, COCO, and All, If traditional medicine had all the answers, none of us would need this support group for rls. Obviously, none of here have many answers at all, and the only hope for us and those with kids who may have inherited rls, is a continuing search, and the faith that somewhere, sometime, a better way will be found to combat this disorder. I think COCO and others who are aggressively seeking other avenues are demonstrating courage and vision - knowing how many people will make fun of methods with which they are not familiar, and yet still be willing to share their experiences, takes guts! I wonder if the traditional medical advances would have ever happened if scientists and researchers of the past had refused to consider the " unknown " . ne, 59, Lawrenceville, NJ --- RAINBOWPED@... wrote: > From: RAINBOWPED@... > > In a message dated 4/17/99 6:58:24 PM !!!First > Boot!!!, mainard@... > writes: > > << But I do believe >> > > Well, I guess that is half the battle in " curing " > yourself, eh? > Perhaps if you " believed " in your traditional > doctor's " magic " , their > treatments would help you achieve " cloud nine " > status too. Guest guest
, I'm guessing that what you are talking about - electrical stimulation of muscles " is basically what the chiro did to my lower back to relieve pain there and in my thigh. Is this a form of acupuncture? It works and the pain is still diminishing with each treatment and does not return to it's original intensity. Guest guest
Coco, I was not " making fun " of you in any way. I evidently misunderstood. To me your post said, " I do not want to hear anything negative " . I don't necessarily think " negative " or to " disagree " is making fun. This was not my intention, and please forgive me if it came off that way. After many sleepless nights, I have no desire to be in conflict with anyone.
