Guest guest
Jill, My bedroom needs to be cool because otherwise my legs will hurt more if I am sweaty. However, I have an electric blanket for my legs. 3/4 of the year my legs are frozen and nothing warms them. So I have an electric blanket to warm them for me. As soon as they are almost totally warm I shut off the blanket because if they get to warm I can't sleep and I'll have to put my feet outside the blankets. This doesn't deal with CMT, but, I love it when it gets hot out and I can use a fan in my bedroom or an air conditioner - because then I don't hear my husbands snoring. LOL >> I solved that problem by wearing ear plugs at night. I buy the soft ones, six to a package, that I can tear in two pieces, one half for each ear. They muffle the sound enough to allow me to sleep, but they don't cut out sound too much, so I can still hear enough if something unusual happens. Each divided one lasts me for many weeks. Men typically fall asleep faster than women do, so ear plugs give me an even break. I don't know how they work for anyone else, but the ones that have a definite shape will not stay in my ears. The soft ones fit across the ear hole, not down inside. About bipap and c-pap machines, how noisy are they? My hubby has sleep apnea. I think he should use one, but his doc (who has never watched him sleep) says he doesn't have sleep apnea. Do they require a prescription? If I don't have my ear plugs in, I hear him take 120 seconds or more between breaths. Then he gasps and can hardly get his breathing going again. I know that isn't healthy and he wakes up tired, even though he is a very active, high energy person. (It wears me out watching him be so busy during the day!!!! ) Kat in Seattle

Kat in Seattle >> *************** Kat, I tried wearing different types of ear plugs but for some reason I can't have anything in my ears for very long at all with out my ears aching horribly. Even if I lay my head on my pillow - ear down, if it's for very long my ear will hurt...... As for the noise of a bipap machine.... It has a hum like a fan. It is an even hum so it's fairly easy to get used to. Both my father and sister -n - law use one. Yes, you have to have a prescription for one..... You might want to go to another doctor.... My husband also has sleep apnea and scares me half to death, plus being a train with his snoring.... HELP!!!! The last doctor he went to told my husband to lose weight.... Well, he gained 20 lbs instead.... So on Thursday we see another doctor and the sleep apnea and snoring will be one of the many issues. I am also changing doctors..... My last doctor reefused my RX refill of vicodin..... I take up to 1/2 to 1 1/2 a night of 500 mg..... I'm not being irrisponsible.... Jeanie (from Oregon) Moonglow21@... Guest guest
Kat, thank-you I'm glad to know that there is a doctor trying to educate other physicians. also: I am also sorry you can't be involved in the chat room.... Yes, it is beneficial and I've enjoyed each time I have the opportunity to learn and get to know another CMTer. They are susposed to be working on making the site available for Mac and webtv users.... Hopefully this happens soon. Jeanie Moonglow21@... There is a Dr. Rose in California who works to educate physicians regarding the appropriate use of serious pain meds. He knows that they are not addictive when used properly, like you are doing. Sorry the egroups program won't allow me to chat yet. I imagine it's fun and supportive when you get some chatters together. >>
