Guest guest
That would be me there, using the ritalin. I did not take it for my RLS, but for my ADD. I was however, at one of my calmer phases (in both ways) while I was taking it. I had to discontinue it for many other reasons. Sometimes it helps with sleep, sometimes it does not. I would sometimes get very sleepy in the middle of the day, but still have a hard time sleeping at night. My son, who is 14 now took Ritalin from 1st thru 5th grades and had a terrible sleeping, until he stopped taking Ritalin. i think it is definitely a drug that loses it's effectiveness after a while. I certainly would not advise it for everyone to try. Ninette - 51 - TN
Guest guest
My 2 cents worth on Ritilin. While working on my Master's degree a few years back, I spent many consecutive hours here at the computer. My legs went nutso. Not wanting to take meds that would make me sleepy, I took some of my boy's Ritilin. It worked very well. I also was able to concentrate better. After all, I had two kids running around the house who were ADHD! So, I got my own prescript and began taking it not only for my RLS but for concentration while I was in class. A few years ago, I also took it at night out of desparation when I had no other meds, but it did inhibit my sleep. It would relax me and my legs, but I couldn't go to sleep for what seemed like hours. Also through the years, my boys, now 14 and 15 couldn't take Ritilin after 3 p.m. or they wouldn't be able to sleep. Fortunately, they have grown out of the Ritilin, but it was a blessing when they were younger. My kids felt better about their self image and were able to do better in school. They only took it in school. BTW, both of my boys have RLS. I think there is a definite correlation between inherited RLS *and* ADHD. Although I have never been diagnosed ADHD, I *know* I was ADHD as a child and I had RLS and my mother had RLS Hope this helps. Lindy B.
