Guest guest
Hello everyone -I found a small paragraph in one of my recent health magazine and noticed this - " Eating blueberries, one of the foods highest in antioxidants, dramatically reversed memory loss and restored motor coordination and balance in aging animals " - according to a new Tufts University research study. " The animals ate an amount equal to about 1/2 cup a day for humans " . Now, it didn't say what type of animals this study was on, but I was wondering about the 'restored motor coordination and balance' and even though many of us with CMT are rather young, I wondered about eating blueberries and if that would help our balance and coordination? I am trying to find the exact whole study to read. Does anyone eat blueberries and have you noticed a change in coordination and balance? Does anyone know what 'ingredient' is in blueberries that might help coordination and balance? Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi to everyone, it sounds great that blueberries could improve balance but I see one problem: here in Germany we don' t get blueberries the whole year and even when we get them they are very expensive. So the only chance is frosted blueberries (which aren' t selled in the supermarkets very often, only as a mixture with other berries). But are they as helpfull as fresh blueberries? Just a suggestion. Guest guest
Gretchen, Lamar here, I sincerely doubt that it would. I have tried various forms of antioxidant supplements that are much stronger than this would be with no effect. Aging causes more of a CNS degeneration as well as overall cellular degeneration. CMT is genetic. Though we experience progression of symptoms, the genetic defect is present at birth and remains the same. It is not a slow change as in age, where various substances accumulate that weaken cellular function. Incidentally it would be difficult to eat FRESH blueberries daily, and prepared or preserved foods loose many of their antioxidants. BTW, I did grow blueberries and ate at least that many in season, while my CMT progressed. blueberries for balance + coordination > Hello everyone -I found a small paragraph in one of my recent health > magazine and noticed this - " Eating blueberries, one of the foods > highest in antioxidants, dramatically reversed memory loss and restored > motor coordination and balance in aging animals " - according to a new > Tufts University research study.
