Guest guest
Dear : I don't know how patients keep missing the point, but you don't need varicose veins to have RLS. I mentioned the presence of normal or maybe cosmetic looking veins which contain the irritant (refluxing blood). I then gave another example of how this irritant causes stasis dermatitis in others. I would suggest that you read the article again. People assume you have to have something obvious to develop RLS. If this were so then it would not be the enigma it has been 'till now. Sincerely, McDonagh, M.D.

Guest guest
Dear ne: The most important aspect is the physical examination of the limb. This cannot be delegated to a doctor not expert in this field. If that is dubious, then a brief color ultrasound examination in the standing patient with a 10 or 12 mHz probe by an ultrasonographer especially trained in superficial examination and " mapping " of the venous flow mechanism would be next. However, in my experience, I have not found this exam to be properly performed anywhere else, even in the best known medical institutions. We developed this test and presented it at the World Congress of Phlebology in London, UK, in 1995. Sincerely, McDonagh, M.D.
Guest guest
Hi , What you mentioned about adrenalin seeming to knock out the rls really rang a bell with me. I never have rls while under a high amount of stress - either good or bad varieties. This seems to be the opposite of what many have reported, but I know it's true for me. I also notice an increase after exercise, unless it is strenuous in the extreme, then it seems better. Pretty weird huh? Maybe there is another med available to you in Australia rather than Senimet - the day time augmentation was really a problem for me too. I would also be open to looking into the vein theory, but I think I'd find a pulmonary specialist of repute in my area, if I decided to do it. (not sure if pulmonary specialists work with veins, but it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, right?!) Keep writing and sharing - that alone will help, even if we're a ways away from " the cure " . ne, 59, Lawrenceville, NJ ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Guest guest
, Are there specific tests to determine if we have this reflux blood in our veins? If so, could you tell us what they are, so we could have them performed by a doctor on home turf? Really would appreciate hearing from you on this. ne, 59, Lawrenceville, NJ ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Geez, I might be stupid but I thought RLS research showed that RLS had something to do with the spinal cord being in a hyperexcitable state with the PRIMARY problem being in the spinal cord or with the brain sending incorrect signals to the spinal cord. What the heck does that have to do with varicose veins? I doubt that our good doc knows much of any thing about RLS. IMHO RAINBOWPED@...
