Guest guest
Just wanted to let you all know how much I've enjoyed being added to the support group (thanks to Lynne Gessner)! Thought it would also be helpful to share my story.... I'm 45 years old and have had RLS/PLMD for about 4 years. Last year, I was told that I have multiple sclerosis (the remissive form). During my visit to the Mayo Clinic here, I was fornunate to come across a RLS Foundation newsletter. I promptly became a subscriber. I had been put on Klonopin by my GP 3 and a 1/2 years ago, when in May, the 3 mg of Klonopin stopped working. The physician at the Mayo Clinic took me off of the Klonopin, cold turkey, and tried Nuerontin, Mirapex and finally Permax. The Permax made me pass out for 1 and a half hours in the middle of the night. I couldn't get out of bed until 6pm the following night-20 hours after I took the Permax. At this point, I turned to my nuerologist and a homeopathic doctor. The homeopathic doctor tried numerous approaches, but none were successfull. My nuerologist put me on a combination of baclofin and acetometaphine with codine along with a regime of decreasing the Klonopin in 25mg increments. I completely got off of the Klonopin but was still walking 2 times per night. He was very good about listening to me and reading the Night. We decided a month ago to try Requip along with 1mg of Klonopin and the acetometaphine with codine. After several weeks of increasing the dosage, I'm now taking .25mg with my 3 meals and taking the Klonopin and acetometaphine at bedtime. I'm very pleased with the quality of sleep. I generally have one instance of PLM and then sleep the rest of the night. Hope this is helpful!
