Guest guest
Muriel, I don't know of any foods that are bad for RLS........that is an individual thing, I suppose.......and most likely, the same foods that are bad for everything else. Some people may have something that bothers them particularly. There may be some foods that are GOOD for it though, and that, too.....is probably individualized. Bananas of course, for their potassium.........anything with a high level of iron in it that can be assimilated by the body properly and not just passed through. Heme iron, I believe, is what we want.........something good about red meat! We should all have a little from time to time, even if you are trying to avoid it. Eat those greens, people, they can all be made to taste wonderful! And tomatoes...cooked tomatoes for the lycopene...and you must have a tad of fat in them...butter or extra virgin olive oil, which are much better for you than the trans-fatty margerines......lots of onions and garlic.......broccoli, of course, and cauliflower and brussels sprouts.......carrots.......... We are looking for magnesium, too........and folic acid. I really believe that it's important when you have an illness of any kind and do not get the proper rest, to make sure that you eat well. It is so much better to get what you need from foods and not pills. Although I am a firm believer in supplements. But I believe they should be just that....a supplement. I make huge pans of all kinds of veggies that I roast with a special marinade that I made.......and pots of vegetarian chili that can mask the taste of anything that you don't really like. Good, solid bread and not that fluff that the supermarkets sell presliced. Eat those grains and beans.... Oh, Lordy.......you've got me on a roll now.........if anyone is interested, I will pass along more when I get my new book about eating for cancer prevention. It's in the mail from Amazon! Dopamine is definitely involved in addiction, Muriel. But it also does lots of good things for our bodies. I understand it is involved with all the pleasure systems that we have, food and sex included. Dr. Earley said he believes that there may be 5 different kinds of Dopamine, and this substance is being researched to death at this point. You need to keep your addiction problems in mind, but you need to deal with your rls also, and get some proper rest. It will be harder for you, but it can be done. Try to get some exercise early in the day and do all the physical things that you can for yourself. Check out the alternative pages and continue your experimentation there. I certainly wish you luck. I'm sure Dr. L will have some information for you that is not as " flakey " as mine.......lol...........and I'm sure many other group members will share their experiences also. Good luck! Guest guest
Connie, your advice is never flaky. You always manage to combine common sense, compassion, and a non-judgemental attitude. You consistently respond to posts, in a very personal way. Despite your own battles with rls, you reach outside yourself to help others. Thank you for being here! ne, 58, Lawrenceville, NJ ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
