Guest guest
Hi Alisha, I think this is a very good thing that you can talk to the psychologist. And I hope you can tell her/him anything and everything. Would you be able to suggest (to your psychologist) that you, your parents and the psychologist all get together to talk on occassion? This might help facilitate the communication with an outside person as a guide. Second of all, have you and your parents sat down together and watched the CMT video? This might also open the communication. With your psychologist as helper, would you be able to set some short term and realistic goals? Like 1) get the depression to lift 2) improve your grades and 3) do one fun thing everyday! When the first goal is in progress, you will feel better and things will begin to get better for you! I hope your psychologist is someone you like and can talk to, otherwise the goal setting won't work, so if you don't like her/him, get another one. I also want to recommend a book you might want to get " The Chronic Illness Experience " by Cheri Register. You can read more about it at http://www.bookstore.hazelden.org you can also buy it from them too. I just noticed it is on sale too! I am the only girl in my family with CMT and the only PERSON in my family with CMT, just want you to know you are not alone! Do you have others in your family you can talk to? Sisters/Brothers/Grandparents, etc? I am not clear if your parents want answers about CMT or what, but if it is CMT information they need, just start printing out all the stuff on the Net, also I hope you are still getting the CMTI newsletter and are you getting the CMTA newsletter as well? Please do not let anyone ever crush your dreams! Just because our feet don't work too well, there is nothing wrong with our brains! And if you want to be a genetic counselor, have you talked to your school guidance counselor to find out a list of universities that have programs and what the requirements are? Now is the time to take charge of your life! Finding out everything you can about CMT is not obsession, it is being smart and educated. Keep on finding things out!!!!!
