Guest guest
HELLO: I am new to CMTUS !!! My name is Kim and I am a 44 year old male with CMT !!! I was diagnosed with CMT about 18 months ago !!! I have had problems with walking and balance since my teens !!! About 14 years ago, I went and saw an Orthopedic doctor about my hammer toes and high arches and the problems I was having with balance and walking !!! He never tried to find out what was causing the hammer toes and high arches, he just wanted to operate on my toes to straighten them out !!! He took out the bone closest to my foot and fused the other joint on all 8 little toes and added to the tendons on both big toes to let them pull back out straight !!! This didn't help a thing !!! Still walk the same (only a little worse at times) and my balance " FORGET THAT " !!! I get around pretty good on short walks but use a cane for any distance !!! Then I run into my weakness in my legs !!! My wife has Multiple Sclerosis and we hobbel around together !!! HA!!! HA!!! CMT, in most cases, is hereditery, but with mine, I can't find anybody on both sides of the family(going way back) that has had anything like this !!! My DNA tests all came back negitive and the shock test and muscle test came back showing nerves about dead !!! Had a nerve biopsy just above my right ankle and nothing abnormal !!! Any feed-back would be greatly appreciated and answered !!! THANKS>>>KIM>>>CRUZIN54
