Yo Rory,

Another Philadelphian here, S. Philly to be exact. I am skeptical about this

EEG/light thing but I'll try anything if it helps. Count me in, let me know.

Rory,

Sounds like the '90s version of Simon and Garfunkel's " America " ( " counting

the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike... " ) ...

I'd be real interested in the results of your study. What is the cost

involved in obtaining such a program, and what kind of hardware/software is

involved? Will this run on my wimpy 486 or will I need some six-figured

Unix box or something?

Flashing lights...hm...hope this isn't a throwback to some late '70s disco

thing... might evoke haunting memories for some of us...( " ah, ah, ah, ah,

stayin' awake, stayin' awake... " ) (Oh...you said EE-EE-GEE's...thought you

said " BEE-EE-GEE's " ....sorry...sleep deprived...)

Hello, all.

New reader of rlssupport.

I've had mild symptoms since my teens, but last spring they escalated to

interfere with sleep. I've been trying non-pharmaceutical response

(except that I take a clomazopin once a week if I haven't been able to

sleep). In response to the message about alternatives, wanted to report

early success with a form of biofeedback that uses flashing lights

through an EEG program. After one treatment, the symptoms disappeared

completely. After seven, the result seemed to stick, so that I had no

symptoms for a week after the last treatment. Am now working with the

provider to get some research grant money. If there is anyone in the

Philadelphia area who wants to participate, let me know! I now have the

program on my computer at home and am giving myself a treatment every

morning for one month to see how long the relief will last.

One other note, had read in the support group mail about magnesium

helping with symptoms. I had the opposite reaction. My first stop at

getting help was to a homeopathist. I didn't know about any magnesium

RLS connection, but she asked because in her research, magnesium

exacerabated restless symptoms. It turned out I was getting a lot of

magnesium in the calcium I was taking and in the Melatonin I had tried

at night. SO I cut the mag out of both and reduced the RLS symptoms

from a 8.5 on a scale of 10 to about a 6, meaning I could get to sleep

and wasn't up for hours in the middle of the night, though still had

enough symptoms to disturb sleep.

Anyway, assume people will be interested in the eeg stuff, and will keep

you posted as our " research " progresses.

since i was born in nyc many many years ago i believe everything and

anything - could this eeg flashing light contain subliminal messages such

as 'YOU WILL NOT TWITCH' or 'YOU WILL GO TO SLEEP'????????? or maybe its

a self-hypnosis technique of some sort???????? seriously though i also am

interested in the findings.

Geez, I've been taking a Calcium Plus formula containing Calcium, Iron,

Magnesium plus Vit A,D,C in a fast dissolving formula to ward off

osteoporosis in my dotage. Does this mean that in order to lessen the RLS

fidgets I'll have to go around with a dowager's hump?????????? If so, life

is looking considerably darker in '99. Ugh :-(

Group,

Holy cow, now its magnesium is it. I was gulping down the cal, mag, zinc

coctail each night and wondering why I got all my e-mail answered in the

middle of the night!

I wonder if it is the mag that is making my legs worse, and here I thought I

needed to adjust my meds. This battle is making me weary!
