Guest guest
Can anyone tell me ways in which your psyche heals after periods of great stress? Mine seems to lag behind the rest of my CMT body by about 3-4 months, and short of naps and more sleep that is about all I have ever figured out I can do. By great stress I mean, for example, surgery, car accidents, death in the family, other trauma. Thanks for whatever you can pass on. Guest guest
Hi Gretchen. My experience with stress and/or trauma tells me that if I can remain as present as possible when going through it, the psychological and physical recovery will be smoother and quicker. The problem I have encountered with such circumstances is that I sort of shut down while going through them; emotionally I am not present. I just shut the emotions off and switch to " deal with it mode. " This is the way I learned to deal with things as a child. There were many traumatic happenings in my younger years (CMT being a be part of it all) and if I hadn't been able to turn off my feelings, I might have gone crazy. I have had to relearn how to stay emotionally alert and emotionally awake and sensitive during trying times. I try to keep talking about how I feel, trying to stay open to everything that comes up. It's a matter of processing the pain or sadness or fear or anger...as it arises. I write about it. Paint it. Write down my dreams. Whatever it takes... After a while of being conscious of this process, it becomes more natural, automatic. And I stay physically active, exercising, moving, walking...Whatever seems to keep me in the moment, I do it. Creative problem solving. ;0) I really can't afford to get too depressed; it sets me way back physically. Oh, and I make sure I get the right amount of sleep. Hopes this helps. Peace...Marc getting over stress > Can anyone tell me ways in which your psyche heals after periods of > great stress?
