Hi everyone: Without inserting myself too much into the Osteopath Debate, I do want to clarify one thing that said: While an osteopath may also have an MD, it isn't necessary for DOs to have one, and--in fact--most don't. That doesn't mean that DOs (Doctors of Osteopathy) aren't actual doctors licensed by their respective states; only that their training didn't include an MD degree from a university. For what it's worth, I'm sure that some DOs are superior to some internal medicine/GP docs who only have MDs; but I'd be very reluctant to go to a DO for any type of surgery (although I do know of one DO who performs heart surgery). The best of all possible worlds, of course, would be someone--like 's doc--who had both degrees.
