job interview/telling others

Hi Devin,

I never said anything about having CMT in any job interview I had. And

nobody asked! If a prospective employer would have asked, I would have

given about a 2 sentence description, then I would have gotten the

interview back on track to my accomplishments, abilities and what I

could bring to the company/organization. And I have spent my work years

so far in very visible PR type jobs. I always work hard and make myself

indespensible! :)

If you need certain accommodations on the job, like say handicapped

parking, different hours, computer equipment/something for hands, etc.,

well, I'd say just make a list of what you need. Then, should the

question come up in the first interview, you'll be able to respond, etc.

Most of my jobs had at least 2 interviews, if not 3, in which more

" personal " type matters were discussed. (like did I think I could commit

myself to working nights and weekends - that one was for a church, no

less!)

Later on, after I have been around, co-workers casually ask 'what do you

have'? So, I have a handy 3-5 minute 'crash course' for them on CMT and

how I am affected. They seem to listen intently, then we go on with the

work in front of us. This satisfies their interest and most people

cannot take long explanations anyway!

Something seems to make me remember that an employer cannot ask you

certain questions during an interview, but I am at a loss if that also

means 'disability'. Maybe a quick call to your State Office of the Dept.

of Labor could shed some light. Or maybe you have an attorney friend who

knows employment law.

And about getting 'the job' - guess I always thought I'd be offered the

job if I was supposed to be! Hope this helps. And GOOD LUCK with your

job search!
