Guest guest
... I have a theory about track records. There was a time when I lived in a little town that was dying, because the uranium mines were closing. People were foreclosing on houses and losing $50,000-$100,000 and walking away from everything they saved. We had a house to sell, too. It looked pretty bleak. Not a single house had sold in our town, in 6 months, and we needed to sell and get out of town in 30 days. Our theory was....we didn't need a lot of people to be buying houses. We need only one. So we studied the situation, adjusted some variables, and we found that one couple...and we sold OUR house, when no one else did. I feel the same way about techniques with RLS. Especially because there are so many variables that will effect whether or not something works. It might NOT work, if you're suffering from other problems, too...or if you're taking other medications, too...or if you don't understand the technique...or if you don't stick with it long enough...or if you don't have the mental energy to make it work, or if what YOUR body is needing is something totally different. That's only a few of the legitimate reasons it might not work. And those reasons, alone, I'm sure, would make for a bad " track record " . But the way I think about it, is the same as how I think about selling that house. I'm not looking for the " cure " for RLS. I'm not even looking for the trick that will help the majority of the people. I just want ONE sale. I want to fix MY RLS. And, I know that after 40 years of RLS....and after it getting so bad, up until a year ago, that I could NOT get to sleep once it started...that now, I haven't had a single night in about 6 months, where I couldn't GET to sleep. I've had nights where I battled it during the night...but it hasn't kept me from getting to sleep the first time. And I'm getting better and better at the " during the night " battles, too. And it's not that it's in remission.....because I still feel the RLS symptoms daily. So, what I'm saying is that there's no need to be concerned if a million people couldn't make self hypnosis and mind control work. It's worked for me. And by the way...it's worked for a LOT of people that I've talked with. So, continue to read and learn and figure out side effects and probabilities of therapies working. But when you decide which one YOU want to try, remember that it doesn't matter if hundreds of others found it to not work...just as long as it works for you. And the most important thing to remember is that if you want it to work for you, then you've got to believe it will work. You can't go into it with the idea that it doesn't work for millions of others, so it won't work for you, either. Consider yourself to be the oddball...and hope you're the one it DOES work for. And, if it works for you....be sure to share the news..because there might be others who it will work for, too. Another point is important, too. Scientific research, in my experience, tends to center on severe cases of something. I can imagine you're right, that scientific research hasn't had much luck with self hypnosis and RLS. Not to mention the fact that some aspects of science don't even put much weight on self hypnosis. BUT...there are tons of people out there with beginning stages of RLS. I'm hoping that if they can perfect some of these techniques BEFORE their RLS worsens, they may get a head start and find relief they need. It's the ultimate in the Zero Tolerance theory. Don't even let it get going. Hang in there...keep the faith...and know that I pray you find the trick for you. Heck, I pray that you're the oddball that will make self hypnosis work for YOU. <-----big friendly smile, there, .
