Guest guest
Hi everyone, In Canada some positive steps are being made regarding the availability of alternative medicines. The federal gov't is going to spend 7 million dollars to to create a whole new category for nutritional supplments, herbs, homeopathic products and natural drugs. Under this new framework alternative medicines will more readily available and better regulated (, you will like this better regulation part). I too think this better regulation is mandatory, because their is a lot of poor quality, and maybe even harmful, stuff out there. A recent study just looked at a number of brands of Ginko Biloba and St. 's Wort and they found an incredible number of tested products did not contain any of the active ingredients, some contained only a small portion, and a very limited number of products actually contained in them what was printed on the label. I am not sure of the exact numbers,so I could't quote them, but I believe this study can be found at www.wampole.com. This just goes to show that better regulation of these medicines is of great necessity, especially here in Canada. From what I read, it also sounds like more research will go into looking at some of the claims made by/of these products, and if they hold up scientifically, companies/products will be allowed to advertise these claims. Personally I think, though some may disagree, that this is a real step forward for our country in embracing preventive, holistic/complimentary health. I am excited about that.
