Guest guest
Hi, all! I had an EMG last year and I truly thought I was going to die. They did my right leg and right arm (all the way to shoulder). I am so glad that I had someone with me to hold my hand and talk me through it. They also did a test where they stuck a needle with a microphone attached to the tip into my muscles (about 6 different points on my legs and arms). After the needle/microphone was in place, I had to contract and release my muscles several time. Let me tell you, this test was as painful as the EMG just because of being forced to move muscles while being skewered with needles. It was also an interesting test though because it allowed me to hear what my muscles sound like when they are at work. I guess it helped the doctor confirm the diagnosis of CMT2. The funny part was all the doctors who passed by the testing room would come in when they heard this test going on. They would all say, " Is that CMT2? " Boy, they had good ears! After those to tests, my whole right side was so numb that it affected the way I walked. I walk funny enough. I don't need any help!! I am glad that I went through these tests but I am NOT going through it again. Also, I just want to add that (according to my mother) I had an EMG when I was 3. She says that they used a lesser setting but I still had a hard time with it. The worst part of this experience, though, was for my mom. She was tested at the same time (full-strength) in front of me and could not express the pain she was going through! Shame on the technicians for not asking my dad to take me out of the room! Thanks for listening! Devin Ann --- Kim Huggins cruzin54@...> wrote: > HEY YA'LL : > Kim here !!! Guest guest
Hey Kat and Everbody: My mistake, the EMG test is the muscle test !!! The other test (can't remember the name) is where they stick pads to the top of your leg with wires coming off of it and then stick a little box(or reciever) to the bottom of your leg or foot which wires runs back to the machine !!! They have a little button they push and it sends 220 volts into the nerve at the top of the leg and the reciever picks it up and sends a message to the machine to read how your nerves recieve signals, I guess !!! If anyone else has had this test, please tell me the name of it !!! My wife Jean has MS and has had the same test, but neither one of us can remember the name of it !!! She says that it didn't bother her that much but it sure hurt me then and for 3-4 days afterwards I had severe nerve shocks and pain !!! I know that everybody is different with this CMT but that is one test I will never take again !!! Sorry about the mistake but my mind doesn't think straight anymore !!! HA!!!HA!!!
