Guest guest
Larry Sorry this was sent incomplete before Re your questions 1. DPM versus Orthopod. I made a call to the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons an asked the same question. Their answer was that a DPM spends three years concentrating on the foot whereas an ortho spends only a portion. I personally have been to four ortho's and was not comfortable that they knew CMT. So I agree with the answer given by someone that the proper answer is to find a doctor, regardless of type, who fully understands the CMT, it's effects and what the foot needs to do after a procedure. 1. In laymans language, you asked about the procedure. He basically fused three bones on the top of my foot, DID NOT take a wedge from my heel as was considered a potential but instead pulled (Pronated )the foot around to become square to the leg (it was rolling under as I walked). He felt that the wedge from the heal was not necessary and at minimum should not be done at the same time. Further he released the plantars fascia tendon and also moved the tendon on the top of the foot over so that there will now be more free movement and a much lower arch. I met with the Doctor today and all remains well with very little pain to date. Hope this helps. If you want more blow by blow you can e-mail me direct.
