Hi, Bill, and all,

I use Ultram in the early evening; about 6:30 mor so. It does help with

pain, but if I do not take it, my legs will start every time. I do take

drug holidays from it 2 days a month, but I don't like it. I have 2 very

bad nights when I am in the holiday mode. n root, I find, does

help a bit, but I do dread the nights off of the Ultram.

Thank you very much for all the info. on Ultram!! I've already tried Permax

and Mirapex and had to drop each after a couple of weeks due to side affects.

My Neurologist thought Requip would have fewer side affects so I started that

last night but I always like to plan ahead as none of these drugs seem to last

forever.

Bill: I was prescribed Ultram for the pain of a shingles condition. It was

effective to a point. The more I took the less it worked. I got through the

acute part of shingles using 10-50mg pills a day. The relief I got was that it

knocked me out so I could sleep away hours of the day. Once awake, the pain of

the shingles reasserted itself. It did alleviate the rls at the same time but

when the worst of the shingles was over and I tried to dump the Ultram I put in

the worst nights of my life with rls. When I cut the Ultram to a single 50 mg

pill it gave me an hour or two of relief from the rls and when that wore off the

rls was rather awful. It took me a year and a half to garner the courage to

live through Ultram withdrawal because of the rls. It was about a month before

the drug was out of my system. The rls I live with now is far more endurable

than what I experienced when I was on the Ultram. I have not, and do not intend

to look for another drug to alleviate rls. From what I read on this support

line you are out of the frying pan and into the fire. Nothing works forever and

then you are stuck with the withdrawal from a drug that is not even alleviating

the rls problem. My own advice would be that if you haven't started on Ultram,

don't even start.

Regards,

Is Ultram used by people with RLS to relieve pain, or lessen the restlessness,

or both? Bill,51,Illinois
