Guest guest
What really helps my daughter and myself is micro-wave socks, you can get them in any sporting goods store and are really nice. I think they might come in slippers also, if you are interested I will find you a place to purchase some Warm feet Hi Kim, it doesn't get real cold here, but in the winter I wear Ugg boots. These originated, I think, with Australian surfers. They are made of sheepskin and I put a waterproof sealer on the outside. Inside they have this nice warm, fuzzy sheepskin, soft, too. No need for socks, since I can't stand socks! I will try to see if I can find a website with them on it so you can see a picture. I even wear these Uggs in the summer, as the sheepskin helps keep feet dry. And congrats on the 14 years of alcohol recovery! I'm right there with you at 20! You cut a tube sock to the size " heating pad " you want and fill with uncooked rice. Sew up the end. Place in the microwave for 30-60 seconds depending on the size you made. It stays warm for about 30 minutes. I put them on my feet at night in bed. They're very portable! My mother even made some tiny ones for my daughter when she had colic to put on her tummy! >> That sounds like a good idea. I like my electric heating pad for bed. I may try the rice for Adam and Spencer.

I preheat my bed for a few hours, and turn off the blanket and electric mattress pad when I go to bed, just to be sure. Also, I hate to wake up roasting in the middle of the night (my feet never thaw, but the rest of me can get too hot). Just another point of view. Guest guest
, Hi. Marc here. I have heard that electric heating pads are not good to use. Especially not good to sleep with. They mess up your electro-magnetic system. Don't know very much about the details but I stopped using electric blankets or even sleeping with a electric clock radio next to my head years ago. I was worried about whether it might mess with already messed up nerves. Rather be safe than sorry and rice sounds safer to me. Just some food for thought. Peace, Marc Re: Warm feet > That sounds like a good idea. I like my electric heating pad for bed. Guest guest
Like I say, I don't know too much, but what I was told caused me to reconsider my practices. As far a cold feet goes, I suffer from random cold feet - usually my right foot. It's as if all circulation stops and me foot becomes like ice. Hard to warm it up. Started taking Omega oils, etc to help improve circulation. Our house gets mighty cold at night, with only a wood stove way across the house, so we've got lots of down comforters and blankets. Actually, I hate the weight and often throw 'em off. Oh well, warmer weather is coming and that helps my cold feet and hands. Guest guest
Becca, Please be careful. I have a friend who also used the heating pad on high during the night. She received bad burns, which needed a doctor's care. Just want you to be aware of the dangers. This is the main reason they are not recommended when sleeping. Guest guest
Hi, . I don't know how you folks select a segment of an earlier message and include it in a new message..... I am forced to do it manually. Ignorance, not always bliss. Anyway, in response to this message: > HI Marc, My nerves are so messed up not much damage is left to be done. I > freeze without a source of heat. Do you ever get cold? How do you warm up? > > I will say that I do get " unusually " cold sometimes. Especially my right foot. And also the ring finger on each of my hands. Hard to heat back up. But, for me, warming these parts by a hot fire before bed helps. Also, aerobic activity seems to help. Sometimes. Not all the time. But I find that I have had to get good at finding creative solutions to problems. I have heard it said that CMT manifests differently in each person. This general principal seems to hold true for the manifestations I experience through the course of a year. Or a day. Every day is a bit different and I must therefore be always thinking of how best to approach the situation a face. Some days my legs hurt; some days I have no pain. Some days my balance is off; some days I feel as if I could...well, not lose my balance and pitch unexpectedly to the ground. You know. It's kinda crazy. Therefore it's hard to answer, other than to say that I do whatever works best. The rice bag idea sounds good (as long as I don't lay 'em on my feet! ;0) ) Peace to all, M
