Guest guest Posted May 27, 1999 Report Share Posted May 27, 1999 A vitamin B12 deficit is responsible for a certain type of anemy (megaloblastic anemy). In this specific case, B12 has to be given but not iron otherwise you could suffer from an iron overdose. Of course, different causes could produce anemy. So far as I know, it would be possible to have a deficience in B12 without a lack of iron. For example, some medicaments seem to be able to decrease the B12 level. Some are taking shots of B12 because it seems to reduce pain.
