Guest guest
It's a frigid, windy, sunny Sunday afternoon and I'm nursing a headcold. While I'm dosing myself with Pulsatilla I got to thumbing through my Complete Guide to Homeopathy and found something that may be interesting. It's more than likely old news to most of you but what the hey------ This comes under the heading of Restless Leg Syndrome " Includes symptoms such as tickling, prickling, burning, or aching sensations, especially in the lower legs, which may cause the legs to twitch or jerk. The condition is usually due to problems with the nervous system and may be partly inherited. It is more common in older people and smokers, and if the muscles are overexerted and fatigued, particularly in cold and damp weather. Restless legs can be the result of diabetes, vitamin B deficiency, excess caffeine, drug withdrawal, or food allergy. Orthodox medicine has not yet identified the exact cause of this condition, but it has been shown that a majority of sufferers have an iron deficiency. Self-help treatments-- Wear warm socks in bed or use a hot-water bottle. Make sure your diet contains enough folic acid and vitamin E, and take extra iron and vitamin B complex. Cut out caffeine (tea, coffee, and cola drinks). " They also list Rhus Tox. for a remedy which I take and it does help though it is not effective for as long a period as Permax. I take it usually when I need a " quick fix " to last till the Permax takes effect. Notice it says " more " common in older people. It doesn't restrict it to us and I know it has shown up in children. Interesting that homeopathy has long recognized the iron deficiency angle something orthodox medicine is just catching onto. And notice it says " especially " in the lower legs not solely in the lower legs (I get it in my arms too). Move over allopathic medicine. Homeopathy is making a comeback because people are getting smarter about their health, asking questions, researching their illnesses and not simply taking a doctor's word as gospel and wondering why the rest of the world practices and respects Homeopathy while it has been pooh-poohed here in the US. The efficacy of Homeopathic remedies has been demonstrated by 200 years of successful use by physicians. Aside from this clinical evidence, there is also prominent scientific research published in various medical journals. There are more than 100 double-blind clinical studies which document the efficacy of Homeopathic remedies. I searched the net and there isn't a Homeopathic physician here in Vermont. The nearest is some in Massachusetts. Oh and by the way Homeopathic remedies are non-toxic with no known adverse side-effects! (nitroglycerin which is prescribed by MD's for angina is homeopathic).
