Guest guest
Hello All, It's a beutiful day here in Rhode Island, actually, all week has been wonderful. It's been a great reprieve for my hip pain. I always have it but, it's worse when the weather's bad. Anyway, how many of you have been on high doses of Neurontin for over a year or so? The reason I ask, is because of certain symptoms I'm having that I believe to be a result of the Neurontin. For one, I'm having difficulty swallowing-not in my throat, but midway down the esophogus, like when you swallow something and it gets stuck. (please, for those of you with vivid imaginations, control yourselves! )This happens all the time now, whether it's food or liquid, and it's not reflux or indigestion, but more like spasms?! Secondly, this mostly pertains to the ladies, and that is breast pain and screwed up menstral cycles.Thirdly, dry mouth/eye syndrome. I've looked all these up in the PDR and all these symptoms are listed under Neurontin, but I've been told that it's probably not related. I got the song and dance about when there are clinical trials on meds that they have to report any and all symptoms that a person has while taking that med. Well, while that may be true, not all listed symptoms are bogus either. Last week, I went to my Primary and she had ordered an upper GI series and a Mamogram, to include some blood work. My follow up appt. isn't until the 24th.I'll find out what's up then. I've been taking Neurontin for 2+ yrs now with varying doses of 3600mg qd to now, I've cut down to 1800mg qd.It's not because the Neurontin wasn't working, but mostly because of the side affects.Plus the other meds I'm taking inaddition to that isn't helping. I have also cut back on the Klonopin to 0.25mg (1/2 a 0.5mg tab )tid, but I can still feel the RLS and especially, the skin senitivity. So I guess, I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't! That seems to be my " theme " for this month so far! I'm trying to be thorough in my description, probably painfully so for some of you , but I really would like some feed back, so maybe I can make a comparison of sorts and get my med changed-to what, I have no idea. I've tried them all, except Topamaz(x), not sure on that last letter. Personally, I'm sick of taking meds. Thanks le _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Guest guest
Hi, le: I'm sorry to hear you are having so many problems. I've been taking Neurontin for quite some time, maybe a couple of years, and I am prescribed to take 1200 mg three times a day. Sometimes I just take 800 mg at a time. In addition, I take 100 mg of Ultram with the Neurontin three times a day and am allowed to take an additional 100 mg of Ultram if needed, which is very seldom. The doctor prescribed the Neurontin when the Ultram wasn't quite handling the pain. At nighttime, I take 0.5 mg Klonopin. This is a combination that has worked well for me for quite awhile, and to date I have had no adverse symptoms. I believe the PDR says that both Ultram and Neurontin might cause dry eyes, and I do have a little of that on occasion, and since I wear contacts, it can be a little bothersome. If that happens, I use wetting drops. Also, if I get too still, I might get a little sleepy, but that's rarely a problem. Anyway, I can't get to sleep on just Neurontin and Ultram. Fortunately for me, I've never had the problems with swallowing that you describe. Hopefully the tests you are having done will have an explanation that will have an easy solution. Good luck to you and keep us informed of your progress. Joyce F/ville,ARkansas
Guest guest
Took Neruontin for about a year, up to a very high dose, and did not have same side effects as you, but I don't have periods anymore (43, in menopause) but found that it did nothing to treat my RLS symptoms and chronic pain symptoms which was what the doctor was looking for. Discontinued it.
